Dinner with our tourguide

Last night, our driver from the tour gave us a good price to take us 40 minutes from Horta to a restaurant called Aldina. We wondered what he would be doing while we were at dinner, considering there’s nothing else there and he loves this restaurant. Turns out, when he made the reservation, he made it for 3! Our tourguide, whose name we can’t remember (it’s ok, he thought Michael’s name was Dennis), had dinner with us which turned out to be a lot of fun!

He told us about the crazy people he’s taken around the island, all the places he’s travelled to, and about how he had to move back to Faial to be with his aging parents. He lived in Toronto for a year and reminisced about his time there.

We ordered octopus (yes…) salad, fresh cheese, INCREDIBLE mussels with garlic (Michael’s favourite), tuna steaks, and cod fish casserole (my favourite). We split a bottle of wine, called Frei Gigante, which is made in Pico. Delicious and slightly fizzy (not sure if on purpose or just a happy accident). Obligatory photos of what we ate:

It’s funny how things come with salad, with no dressing at all, with some tomatoes and corn just thrown in there. It’s not easy to just find some veggies or a good salad on this island (not that I’d be eating that anyway).
